Experience the Thrill of Ice Climbing on Glaciers

Enjoy this 4- 5 hour adventure for something that is completely unique to the Alaskan Traveler. Your guides will equip you with everything necessary to remain safe including a rope, harness, helmet, boots, crampons, and ice tools to ensure a successful ascent up the glacier wall. Guests can choose to take on a steeper challenge or stay in their comfort zone, this is a challenge by choice adventure!

  • Ice climbing instructor (2 in winter)

  • Crampons, harness, helmet, ice climbing axes, plastic mountaineering boots, ropes, and hardware for top-rope climbing.

Who Is This Summer Tour For?

Ages starting at 16 and older, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adventurous people with a moderate level of fitness. No ice climbing experience is necessary. Alaska has extreme weather conditions and it can change often, guests will need to be prepared for cold wind and possible rain.

Who Is This Winter Tour For?

Ages starting at 12 and older. Adventurous people with a moderate level of fitness. No ice climbing experience is necessary. Alaska has extreme weather conditions and it can change often, guests will need to be prepared to face the Alaskan Winter temperatures for multiple hours.

What to Expect in the Summer

  • Scenic Helicopter flight from Alaska Glacier Lodge over the Knik Glacier

  • Land on a remote location on the glacier

  • Your guide will assist you in putting on your harness and crampons

  • You will receive climbing instruction and safety briefing

  • Spend up to 4 hours climbing on glacier features

  • Enjoy included lunch on the glacier taking in the majestic views

  • The Helicopter will pick you up and return to the lodge

  • Private Tour

What to Expect in the Winter

  • Get equipped with mountaineering boots at the adventure headquarters

  • Scenic Helicopter flight from Alaska Glacier Lodge over the Knik Glacier

  • Land within a short walk of many immense frozen waterfalls

  • Your guide will assist you in putting on your harness and crampons

  • You will receive a safety briefing and climbing instruction

  • Learn how climb on frozen waterfalls at your pace

  • Enjoy snacks and expansive views of the Knik & Colony Glaciers

  • Please note that we are climbing frozen waterfall ice near a glacier, not on the glacier. Temperatures can shift and become extreme without warning, guests should be expected to feel cold at times.

What You Need to Know

  • Please keep in mind this activity involves height exposure

  • Trips are weather dependant

  • Guests will be outdoors for up to 4 hours

  • Guests weight restriction is 290lbs per person

  • Guides will be equipped with a medical kit

  • Gratuity for your guide is not included in trip price

  • Please pack specific foods you need if you have allergies & restrictions

What to Bring

  • Winter Pants, Jacket & Gloves / Hat & Warm socks (WINTER)
